Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the GE Signa LX 1.5 Tesla superconducting MRI system. Perform routine and special MRI and MRA procedures on In-House and Out-Patients. Perform advanced imaging procedures such as contrast enhanced MRA,CSF Flow studies, abdominal, pelvic and chest MRI and MRA,RUN-OFF MRA,EKG and respiratory gated MRI,as well as MR Spectroscopy. Independently set up IV Catheters in patients of all ages for use with power injectors for CE MRA and dynamic breast, abdominal and thoracic imaging. Independently inject Contrast via winged infusion sets for routine CE studies. Order MRI phlebotomy supplies for contrast injections. Order contrast media, processor chemicals, and laundry. Calculate a monthly, quarterly, and yearly census for budget justification. On an on-going basis, develop new protocols and revise current ones. Develop new documents for MRI such as screening forms, protocol checklists for study protocoling by radiologists, and liability release forms for patients to be scanned with tattoos and jewelry as well as attend Forms Committee meetings to explain and justify new or revised documents. When necessary, contact field service engineers and coordinate preventive maintenance visits as well as emergency service for critical system problems. Train newly hired MRI technologists for operation of new GE 1.0 superconducting magnet installed in Kona Community Hospital. Consult with radiologists and radiology administrator with respect to commencing clinical services with a newly installed Hitachi Altaire 0.7 hybrid MRI system. Educate crosstraining technologists in MRI encompassing topics such as: basic and advanced physics; manipulating system parameters and their effect on image quality; recognition of artifacts and mitigation thereof; pulse sequence selection as it pertains to elucidating pathology and unequivocating the composition of pathology. Train technologists in I.V. catheter and winged infusion phlebotomy techniques. Develop a policy and procedure manual that includes: a comprehensive, instructive protocol list; protocol checklist for radiologists; procedure for mitigation of a quench,a patient emergency and other non-MRI related emergencies; consent forms for pregnant patients, patients with tattoos, patients who can't or won't remove jewelry,as well as consent forms for minors who will be receiving contrast. Order all supplies related to the operation of the MRI department. Instruct receptionists on all aspects of scheduling that are unique to MRI patients. Make a monthly technologist schedule. Maintain a census of MRI studies in order to justify hours of operation and expenditures. Operate, maintain and troubleshoot the Hitachi Altaire.
